AeroAstro Latin-American Students (ALAS) builds community among Latin-American graduate students

The new student group AeroAstro Latin-American Students (ALAS) is fostering community and professional growth for graduate students of Latin-American heritage.

The group has hosted two events this fall. Laura Delgado López, a visiting fellow with the Americas Program at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), spoke to community members from both AeroAstro and the MIT Technology and Policy Program on Space Matters: The Geopolitics of Space and “Emerging” Nations. ALAS also launched a recurring Cafecitos gathering where community members can drop in, have an espresso, and build connections.

“We’re excited to have this new group to build connection and celebrate this part of our identities,” says founding member Thomas González Roberts.

With Roberts, other founding members Regina Apodaca Moreno and Adriana Mitchell would like to thank AeroAstro’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion committee for their funding and support. Reach out to aa-alas-exec@mit.edu for more information.
