STUDENT ENGINEERS-BUILDING REXIS

Meet the MIT student engineers who are assisting NASA with asteroid exploration. These student engineers in our Space Systems Laboratory have built an instrument called REXIS, which will fly on the OSIRIS-REx spacecraft that is scheduled to launch later in 2016. REXIS will collect and image fluorescent X-rays emitted by asteroid 1999 RQ36,  providing spectroscopic information on the chemical makeup of the asteroid regolith and the distribution of features over its surface.
