Raymond Bisplinghoff on 1979 Chicago DC10 crash

(Recorded in the early 1980s) Raymond Bisplinghoff (1917-1985) chaired the FAA committee that investigated the May 1979 crash of an American Airlines DC10 at O'Hare, killing all aboard. In this video shot at MIT in the early 1980s, he discusses the accident and its relevance to aircraft maintenance and technology. Blisplinghoff was a former head of MIT AeroAstro (succeeding Doc Draper), former dean of engineering, and the first NASA deputy director.
